SOLITARY SOULS

Jesus is not alone

now more casualties

of mangled marriages

than ever before

rejected un-lovelies

find sun cold as stone

with no air in their air

good at suffering

solitaire unravels

in the labyrinth of love

unloved and untouched

asleep in the loins

like eviscerated road-kill

on the side of a highway

Sundays become pain days

four walls a prison

loneliness in each breath

they hug themselves

to death into booze-laden

sleepless dreams

congregation leaders

the only ones left who care

sing and pray sing and pray

the sting of passion scorned

will melt away like florets

of dandelion in the wind
